Disability Ambassadors

The Disability Ambassadors assist the Disability Resource Center with outreach efforts and presentations while gaining a deeper understanding of the office’s mission. Through this role, ambassadors will develop skills in communication, public speaking, networking, and leadership, enhancing their personal growth and experience at UF.

Ambassadors will also participate in leadership and training opportunities to further their knowledge of accessibility and the resources provided by the DRC.

Disability Ambassadors Applications will open for early fall for the upcoming school year.

In-person interviews will follow the online application. Interview times will vary with days and times, so you can find ones that best fit into your schedule.

Following selection, you will be required to attend training. This will give you important information to support you in your role as a Disability Ambassador. You will also be asked to participate in various events run by the Disability Resource Center, including tabling and Ambassador planned events and meetings.

• Enhance communication, public speaking, and leadership skills through outreach and presentations.
• Build confidence and knowledge to represent the DRC at tabling events.
• Familiarize students with UF’s Disability Resource Center and campus accessibility resources.
• Gain professional development through mentorship opportunities with DRC Staff.

• Commit to at least 3-6 hours per week for DA activities and meetings.
• Attend all bi-weekly meetings and mandatory training sessions.
• Assist in tabling events and other outreach activities. At least 1 tabling shift will be required each week.
• Members will need to meet a minimum point requirement to remain active.
•  Exhibit professionalism and represent DA and the DRC positively on and off campus.
•  Engage in collaborative efforts with other student organizations.
• Actively contribute to tabling activities, bi-weekly meetings and group discussions.
• Participate in DRC/DA events (e.g., Disability Health Panel, Accessible Day at the Lake).
• Serve as a resource for students seeking information on campus accessibility.
• Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Florida and in good academic standing.
• Willingness to work in a team environment with other ambassadors, university staff, and student organizations.

Develop the apply a working understanding of accommodations, barriers, and campus resources to effectively support students.

• Apply knowledge of accessibility and accommodations to support outreach programs and peer interactions.
• Identify and refer peers to appropriate campus and community resources
• Explain the purpose and process of accommodations in clear, student-friendly language

Demonstrate communication, outreach, and facilitation skills to effectively support students and promote resources.

• Communicate clearly, respectfully, and accessibly about disability-related topics.

• Deliver engaging and accessible presentations on disability resources, accommodations, and barriers.

Support accessibility by connecting students to resources and contributing to a supportive campus environment.

• Guide students toward appropriate on-campus support services, including the DRC.
• Identify opportunities to reduce barriers and improve accessibility in outreach efforts.
