Opportunities Available for
Spring & Fall
The Disability Resource Center has practicum positions available for graduate students in the student personnel and higher education program who are looking to receive practical experience while working with students with disabilities. Interested students will learn various aspects of the Disability Resource Center.
Fall Semester: Formal Practicum – 10 hours/week
Spring Semester: Informal Practicum – 5-10 hours/week
DRC Outreach Practicum Student Description
DRC Supervisor: Beth Roland
The DRC outreach practicum student will work on several outreach projects and initiatives within the DRC during their practicum.
Outreach projects will include:
- 50% – Assisting DRC outreach staff with the development of a Disability Advocacy Ally training program to create a campus-wide network of students, faculty, and staff, educated on disability issues and how to champion accessibility in their respective areas. This campus-wide program will be designed to promote an accessible and inclusive UF community through advocacy, education, support, and resources for gators with disabilities by creating a visible network of allies.
- 30% – Assisting DRC outreach staff with planning the DRC Ambassador training schedule and training materials, assisting with planning the ambassador leadership retreat, assisting with creating recruitment materials and a recruitment plan, and meeting bi-weekly with the Ambassador leaders for planning.
- 20% – Outreach and Tabling – Assisting DRC outreach staff by attending tabling events and representing the DRC to share with students and UF community members about the office and how to connect with the DRC.
DRC Access and Success Practicum Student Description
DRC Supervisor: Amanda Brown
The DRC Access and Success practicum student will work on several Access and Success deliverable projects and initiatives within the DRC during their practicum.
Access and Success projects will include:
- 50% – Assisting DRC Access and Success Team with the development of resources for DRC students and faculty which facilitate a greater understanding of accommodation specifics and individual responsibility to insure student access and success.
- 30% – Assisting DRC Access and Success Team with developing and executing Success Workshops, including resource materials, for DRC students.
- 20% – Assisting DRC Access and Success Team with establishing a collaboration between the DRC and UF Online and to assess efficacy of information promoting DRC services and programs to UF Online students.
DRC Transition Practicum Description
DRC Supervisor: Jenna Gonzalez
The DRC Transition practicum student will work on several transition projects and initiatives within the DRC during their practicum.
Transition projects will include:
- 30% – Assisting the DRC Transition staff with the implementation of the Transition Success Initiative. The Transition Success Initiative is for new DRC students, students new to their disability and students new to the University of Florida to explore disability identity, engage with the DRC, receive time management and study strategies, and learn about campus resources.
- 20% – Assisting the DRC Transition staff with the execution of the in-person orientation for new students affiliated with the DRC. The orientation will review processes such as requesting Accommodation Letters and Accommodated Testing Requests, speaking with instructors, and reviewing support services within the DRC.
- 20% – Assisting the DRC Transition staff with the facilitation of the You’re Hired event. The You’re Hired event is designed to assist students in understanding their disability identity in relation to employment.
- 15% – Assisting the DRC Transition staff with the DRC’s Access Graduation celebration. The DRC’s graduation celebration honors DRC students who are graduating, Johnson scholars, and exemplary UF faculty who implement Universal Design and inclusive practices.
- 15% – Assisting the DRC Transition staff with alumni engagement events and initiatives.
